What our estimate is actually based on

Our due date calculator uses methods recognized by the World Health Organization and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, including Naegele's Rule and last menstrual period (LMP) dating. Depending on the inputs you provide, the calculator may estimate your due date based on your LMP, an estimated conception date, or an ultrasound date.

These are standardized, formula-based estimates. They are not personalized assessments and do not account for factors a clinician would consider, such as your full medical history, ultrasound measurements, or pregnancy-specific risk factors.

Why your actual due date may differ

Due date calculations are estimates, not certainties. Only a small percentage of babies are born exactly on their estimated due date — most arrive within a window of two weeks before or after.

• The standard 40-week calculation assumes a 28-day menstrual cycle with ovulation on day 14. If your cycle is longer, shorter, or irregular, your actual due date may differ.
• Ultrasound dating, particularly in the first trimester, is often more accurate than LMP-based estimates and may revise the date your healthcare provider uses.
• Conception date estimates depend on accurate recall and may not reflect the actual date of fertilization.
• The calculator cannot account for individual health conditions, prior pregnancy history, or risk factors that may affect timing.

We include these limitations not to create worry, but because we believe you deserve a clear, honest picture of what an estimate can and cannot tell you.
